Wat Niwet Thammaprawat Ratchaworawihan

Located on an island in the middle of the Chao Phraya River, opposite Bang Pa-In Palace, after visiting Bang Pa-In Palace, tourists can take a cable car across the river to visit this temple. Wat Niwet Thammaprawat is the only Thai temple in Thailand built in European architectural style. Because of its unique beauty, it has been elevated to the status of a first-class royal temple of the Worawihan type. The interior of the temple has been preserved in its original beautiful condition amidst the peacefulness of a riverside temple. This temple has ancient Buddha images that are beautiful works of Buddhist art. The first is the principal Buddha image named Phra Phutthanarumonthamophas, a stone Buddha image in the Naga Prok posture, Lopburi art style, a work of Khmer craftsmanship that is over a thousand years old. The Buddha image is enshrined in the area of a large Bodhi tree that is also very old, right opposite the Phra Khanthararat Hall. This temple is open to visitors from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. #VisitHistoricalSite

Wat Niwet Thammaprawat Ratchaworawihan

Unique beauty in Thailand... Wat Niwet Thammaprawat 🕍 Wat Niwet Thammaprawat is an old Thai temple during the reign of King Rama V, built in the European architecture style, the only one in Thailand. It looks like a Christian church in the Gothic style. It is located near Bang Pa-In Palace, Bang Pa-In District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province.       Because King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) expanded and built Bang Pa-In Palace, which later ordered the expansion of the palace wall to be wider than the original, completed in 1876 and had faith in establishing Wat Niwet Thammaprawat in the same year to be a temple for the palace as a place for him to perform royal merit when he came to stay in Bang Pa-In Palace. In building this temple, he donated money to the officials who hired Western craftsmen to map and design the chapel and the group of monks' quarters to have the appearance of temples in Western countries. This was because he intended to worship Buddhism with strange things and for all the people to see and play with as strange things. Because it is not yet found in other monasteries. It does not mean that people are happy and believe in other religions, except for Buddhism. The architectural style used in the construction of the temple is Gothic art, which is a medieval art of Europe. The entire ordination hall, walls, arches, bell towers, sala, monks' quarters, and every building are made of brick and mortar in the style of western countries. However, the interior is beautiful and peaceful in the style of a Buddhist temple. The construction was completed in 1878 and His Majesty named it "Wat Niwet Thammaprawat" and a grand celebration was held. Wat Niwet Thammaprawat flourished throughout the reign of King Rama V. When it came to the reign of King Rama VII, the earthen dams on both sides of the Chao Phraya River of the temple began to collapse. Her Majesty Queen Savang Vadhana (Her Majesty the Queen Mother) ordered the construction of a new concrete dam in 1928. As for the monks' quarters, sala, and other sacred places The dilapidated temple was renovated and more permanent structures were built during the current reign. Since Wat Niwet Thammaprawat is located on an island, the only way to get there is to take a cable car. The cable car can accommodate about 6-8 people and takes about a minute to get there. #VisitHistoricalSite
