A temple greeted by a thousand-handed Kannon with the scent of sandalwood

#postandearn Kannonsho-ji Temple in Omihachiman City, Shiga Prefecture, is a historic temple that is said to have been built on the mountain about 1,400 years ago in response to the request of a mermaid that Prince Shotoku met in the lake. It has been known as a temple of matchmaking since ancient times, and many people have visited it in the hope of the fulfilment of various marriages. It is also known as the residence of the Shugo Daimyo Sasaki Rokkaku clan and the remains of Kannonji Castle. The temple is located at the top of the mountain. If you climb the long path and reach the entrance, you will be greeted by a majestic statue of Nio. The main hall burned down once in 1993, but was rebuilt in 2004. Inside, there is a thousand-handed Kannon statue made of 23 tons of sandalwood specially imported from India.
