Nakoli | Tea Horse Road Town

| The Ancient Tea-Horse Road town. ◾️Nakeli is located in the southern part of Ning'er County, Pu'er City, about 25 kilometers away from Pu'er City. Nakeli used to be the first stop for Pu'er tea to go to Southeast Asia. It is also an important post station on the Ancient Tea-Horse Road. It is a special post station on the Ancient Tea-Horse Road. ◾️Nakeli, originally a Dai language, means an ideal place for human habitation with small bridges, flowing water, fertile soil and fields, and abundant harvests every year. The ancient village is formed by two small rivers that meet here. It still preserves relatively intact ruins of the Ancient Tea-Horse Road, the century-old Rongfa Old Store, some historical relics and artifacts such as horse lamps and stone troughs for horses to drink water used by the caravans in the past. It has a long history and culture and profound traces of tea culture and ancient road culture. ◾️Nakeli, formerly known as "Ma Kuli", is said to have been named "Ma Kuli" because whenever a caravan entered Nakeli, they had to cross a small river. After a long journey, the horses would always shed sad tears after being tired when crossing the cool water, hence the name "Ma Kuli". Ma Guotou, who regarded horses as his life, wrote to the government many times to suggest building a bridge here. The government also fulfilled Ma Guotou's wish and built a wind and rain bridge with a length of more than 20 meters and a specification of five grids. From then on, "Ma Kuli" was renamed "Nakeli". ◾️As the origin and distribution center of Pu'er tea, Nakoli's ancestors creatively opened up such a route for trade exchanges and communication with the outside world. It was a folk trade channel with horses as the main means of transportation and rugged mountain roads as the carrier. The continuous development of the Ancient Tea-Horse Road brought prosperity to the tea industry, and Nakoli at that time was a bustling and busy post station on the Ancient Tea-Horse Road.
