South Street Seaport Museum Explore Maritime History

Ambrose is a guide ship, similar to a lighthouse, which is specially used to guide other ships to safely pass through low water or rocky areas and enter New York Harbor. For many travelers to the United States, the first thing that comes into view before seeing the Statue of Liberty is the light of Ambrose.
