The former residence of Li Yu in the Mustard Seed Garden of Nanjing

The Mustard Seed Garden is located at No. 32, Santiaoying, Laomendong, Qinhuai District, Nanjing City, situated within the Confucius Temple Qinhuai Scenic Area. It was the residence and villa of the famous early Qing Dynasty literati Li Yu. Li Yu moved to Jinling (Nanjing) and initially lived near the Jinling Gate. Later, he built the Mustard Seed Garden before the Qixi Festival (Chinese Valentine's Day) in the seventh year of the Kangxi era of the Qing Dynasty. Although the Mustard Seed Garden was less than three acres in size, through Li Yu's meticulous management, it achieved the artistic conception of 'a world in a bottle,' holding an important position in the history of Chinese gardens.
