It is a large bell-shaped chedi with a huge flaring mouth. The structure is made of logs tied with huge chains, covered with bricks and mortar, decorated with tiles. There are four chapels in each direction and two layers of glass walls. It is the place where the Buddha's relics are enshrined. 🙏Originally called 'Phra Tham Chedi', it is the great relic of Suvarnabhumi. It is not known when it was built. King Rama IV thought that it might have been built when the monks envoyed by King Ashoka the Great traveled to spread religion to Suvarnabhumi. This is because the original chedi was in the shape of an inverted bowl, similar to the Sanchi Stupa, but it had a prang-like spire. His Majesty thought that it might have been renovated by a royal family member. He gave it a new name, Phra Pathom Chedi, because he believed that this was the first chedi in Suvarnabhumi. 🙏King Rama IV ordered a new chedi to be built to cover the original one. Built a chapel and a surrounding gallery, but he passed away. King Rama V ordered the construction of a bell tower and decorated it with tiles until it was completed. King Rama VI restored the royal chapel, painted pictures of the original chedi and other pictures on the walls, and enshrined Phra Ruang Rojanarit Sri Indrathit Thammamo Phas Maha Vajiravudh Ratchabuchanee Bophit on the northern porch. 🙏 King Rama VI had a damaged Buddha statue, which was beautiful and in accordance with his heart, which was sunk in the floor of the chapel of an ancient temple in Si Satchanalai. He ordered it to be excavated and restored, cast from metal into a standing Buddha in the attitude of forbidding relatives, and enshrined at Phra Pathom Chedi in 1915. Currently, under the base of Phra Ruang Rojanarit, the royal remains of King Rama VI are enshrined. 🙏 In addition, inside Phra Pathom Chedi, there is also the Shrine of the Lord Prasat Thong, the Reclining Buddha, and the White Stone Buddha. 🙏 Every year, there is a festival to worship Phra Pathom Chedi.
