The Alpine town of Montvalesin, France

The commune of Montvalesin in the Savoy department of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in southeastern France is located in the Tarentaise Valley of the Alps at an altitude of 860 to 2,939 meters, along the Petit Saint-Bernard Pass leading to Italy. It is famous for its ski resort La Rosière. La Rosière is connected to the nearby Italian resort of La Thuile by two fairly long cableways that cross the Petit St. Bernard Pass. This ancient mountain road is also believed to be the place where the Carthaginian general Hannibal led his army, including elephants, through.
