A city frozen in time for nearly 2,000 years!

It’s the stuff of legends, right? In the year 79 CE, Mount Vesuvius erupted. It was one of the deadliest volcanic eruptions that has ever occurred on Earth. Whilst the eruption happened nearly 2000 years ago, the resulting pyroclastic blast ensured that this volcanic eruption would be etched in history forever. Pompeii was one of the nearest cities to Mount Vesuvius. It was a Roman metropolis that had it all - shops, houses, theatres and so much more. In an instant, life in that city was changed forever. But the city wasn’t destroyed. Buried under a mound of molten lava, rocks and ash, it would be discovered centuries later. Nowadays, we can walk in the same footsteps as our Roman ancestors. We can get a taste of what life was like all those years ago and discover how, in many ways, their lives weren’t much different to our own. A top tip - try and visit in the shoulder seasons as there is a lot of walking to do in and around Pompeii - you don’t want to visit whilst it’s too hot.
