Chamarel’s Rainbow Earth & Waterfall: A Must-Do Family Day in Mauritius

During our trip to Mauritius, one of the most magical and memorable days we had was exploring Chamarel, a small village tucked into the lush southwest of the island. We booked a private excursion with Coquille Bonheur for our family and it couldn’t have been more perfect. #familytrip 🌿 Our day started surrounded by greenery as we drove through sugar cane fields and winding hills, heading into what felt like a different world. Our first stop: the Chamarel Waterfall, the highest single-drop waterfall in Mauritius. Set against a backdrop of dense forest, it was a breathtaking sight — especially from the upper viewing platform, where you really feel its power. But the true highlight was the 7 Coloured Earths, a natural phenomenon that still seems almost surreal. These sand dunes shift in shades of red, brown, violet, and blue depending on the light — no filters needed. It’s one of those rare places that truly looks like the photos, maybe even better. 🐢 We also stopped at the Giant Tortoise Park, where we spent time with some of the island’s oldest and slowest residents — a hit with both kids and adults. What made this day so special was doing it privately and at our own rhythm. Our guide from Coquille Bonheur was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about Mauritian nature and culture, making the whole experience feel personal and insightful. ✍🏼 Travel Tips: - Go early to enjoy the sights with fewer crowds and better light for photos. - Book a private guide (we recommend Coquille Bonheur) for a more relaxed and enriching experience. - Bring a good camera: the colours of the earth really shift with the sunlight! - Wear comfortable shoes; especially if you want to explore the viewpoints around the waterfall. - Don’t miss the tortoise area: it’s a great break for kids and animal lovers. Chamarel is much more than just a stop on the map — it’s a place where nature, and quiet beauty come together. If you’re visiting Mauritius and want to see something truly unique, this is the kind of day that sticks with you. #mauritiusadventure #chamarelcoloredearth #privatetour #naturalwonders #travelinspiration #vacation
