It was a place for shipbuilding and ship repair at that time and has special historical significance in the history of Macau. The predecessor of the Maritime Workshop was the Dock Machinery Department. During the heyday of Macau’s shipbuilding industry, this was the place for shipbuilding and ship repair. With the decline of industry, shipbuilding technology was gradually forgotten by history. Maritime Workshop No. 1 was originally the machinery room of King Carlos I’s dock, with a high ceiling and a full sense of space. After restoration, it became a contemporary art center, regularly exhibiting works by artists from all over the world, while preserving the original appearance of the building, giving people a glimpse of its old appearance. Outstanding artists from all over the world are regularly invited to exhibit their works here, and they collaborate with performing arts groups to hold experimental performing arts projects, integrating visual art exhibitions and performing arts.
