When you get to Luoyang, you must visit Guanlin!

The second city of my Henan trip was Luoyang, where there is a must-see attraction — Guanlin. Guanlin, located in Guanlin Town, Luolong District, Luoyang City, Henan Province, is the burial site of the head of Shu General Guan Yu from the Three Kingdoms period. It consists of a temple in the front and a tomb in the back, and is one of the three major Guan temples at home and abroad. Among thousands of Guan temples, it alone is called 'Lin', and it is the only ancient classical architecture in China that combines a tomb, a temple, and a forest in one. Guanlin was originally built during the Ming Dynasty's Wanli era and was expanded during the Qing Dynasty's Qianlong era. The existing buildings are mainly well-preserved from the Ming Dynasty. Every year, the fifth day of the first lunar month is a special day in the Chinese New Year, with folk customs of worshiping the God of Wealth and welcoming the God of Wealth on this day. There are three types of Gods of Wealth: the God of Literary Wealth, the God of Martial Wealth, and the God of Sovereign Wealth. The God of Literary Wealth is Bi Gan, the God of Martial Wealth includes Zhao Gongming and Guan Yu, and the God of Sovereign Wealth is Lord Chai. Many businessmen particularly revere Guan Gong. It just so happened that we visited Guanlin on this very day. At the beginning of the New Year, we went to Guanlin to worship the God of Wealth, and then to observe the cultural relics here, hoping for happiness and health in the coming year, success in our children's studies, good health for our parents, and smooth progress in our own careers. It was a trip well worth it, and Guanlin is indeed worth a visit.
