Apsley House - London

Apsley House is the current London residence of the Dukes of Wellington, located in the southeast of Hyde Park, on Hyde Park Corner Square. Since 1947, part of the premises has been open to the public, it is called the Wellington Museum. Apsley House was built in 1771–1778 for Lord Apsley. Opposite Apsley House rise the Wellington arch and the equestrian statue of the Duke of Wellington I, during which the residence acquired its current appearance in the regency style: an empire-style pediment decorated with Bath limestone was added to the building, an art gallery appeared. It was based on canvases captured by the duke in the camp of Napoleon. The collection includes paintings by Velazquez, Rubens, Lorrain, Correggio and Goya. #londontrip #londontrips
