#EuropeGuide 🚽 An Ordinary Plumber's 'Time Travel' Entrance The Faggiano Museum began in 2001 when Luciano Faggiano planned to convert this building into a restaurant. To address dampness and repair broken sewer pipes, he dug through the floor. Little did anyone know that this would unlock ancient history dating back to the 4th century BC. Upon breaking the floor, a false medieval floor was revealed, and beneath it, a Roman granary and a tomb containing the remains of the Messapii (4th century BC). It's an incredible story: a man trying to solve a toilet problem unearthed 2,000 years of Lecce's history. Mr. Faggiano and his three sons dedicated seven years to this excavation, and the result is the museum we see today. When visiting, be sure to remember this remarkable beginning hidden behind the facade of an ordinary home.
