Secret City

This city of Lablae is called Lablae because it is a small district in Uttaradit Province. Traveling back and forth is inconvenient. There are winding roads, which makes it easy for people who are not familiar with the way to get lost. It is therefore called Lablae City, which means invisible. However, another story is that in the past, the landscape was a complex forest with a cold atmosphere. Even in the evening, the sun would not set because Doi Mon Rishi acted as a screen to block the sunlight. Therefore, this forest was called "Laplae Forest". Laeng means evening. Later, the name was distorted to "Laplae", which became the name of the current Lablae District. In Lablae City, there is a common saying that Lablae City is a place where lying is prohibited. This saying comes from a legend that has been passed down. Once, a young man from Tung Yang got lost in the Lablae Forest and found a beautiful woman hiding something. The young man secretly stole the thing and used trickery until the young woman believed him and took him to live and be her husband in Lablae City. The young man saw a city full of abundance and beautiful women. For this reason, the city of Lablae is a secret city that outsiders cannot enter. The people of Lablae will adhere to good morals and strictly practice Dhamma at all times. They do not tell lies or deceive each other. One day, a young man and a young woman had a child together, but the young woman went out to do some errands. The man stayed with the child since the child cried and whined, wanting to find his mother. Until the man lied to his child that his mother had arrived, hoping that the child would stop crying. But the villagers heard that the young man was telling lies, so they chased him out of the village. The young woman felt sorry for him and did not know how to help him. She could only put her things in a bag for him, telling him not to open it before reaching home. On the way, the man opened it and saw that it was turmeric, so she threw it away along the way because it was heavy. But when she reached home, there was only a little turmeric left in the bag. When she opened it, she found that it was gold.
