You can see the beautiful scenery of Mae Tha District, including the village, river, forest, and lush green trees in a wide angle. The villagers believed that this place was sacred and full of mysterious stories. Until in 1902, a chedi was built on the mountaintop. This led to the tradition of climbing Doi Phra Chan to worship the chedi once a year on the 8th waxing moon of the 7th month (the 9th month in the north) around May of every year. Buddhists from Pa Tan Subdistrict and nearby subdistricts will walk up the mountain to pay homage to the chedi on Doi Phra Chan. 🏰In 2008, there was another major renovation of Wat Phra That Doi Phra Chan. Inside, “Somdet Phra Phutthasikhithosaphonyan Phichitmaravikrom, the first samma sambodhiyan, Sri Phra Chan Banphot” is enshrined. The principal Buddha image is in a golden glass pavilion. The door panels of the temple are intricately carved in the form of Naga serpents coiling around the white pagoda. The front of the temple is outstanding with Naga stairs. The temple grounds are open, with a viewpoint of Mae Tha District and nearby districts. 🙏 Phra Daibutsu, a large green-blue Buddha image, sits in the Dhyana Mudra (meditation posture), 14 meters wide, made of copper, prominently enshrined on a hill.
