Kiyomizu-dera, founded in 778, was registered as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in 1994. The temple is located halfway up Otowa Mountain and covers an area of about 130,000 square meters, with over 30 halls and stone monuments, including national treasures and important cultural properties. The temple boasts rich natural scenery, with beautiful autumn foliage and different temple views throughout the year. The main hall stands on a cliff, with the 'Kiyomizu Stage' suspended in mid-air. A beam of blue light streaks across the night sky of Kiyomizu-dera, resembling the gentle compassion of Bodhisattva enveloping the entire Kyoto. The temple at night is filled with a sacred atmosphere, attracting many visitors. Be cautious of the crowds at night as visibility is low. Kiyomizu-dera is generally open from 6:00 to 18:00, and the reception for Goshuin starts at 8:00.
