Wrapped in cedar trees and moss

#aprilblooms A sacred place opened by Yasusumi in the year of Yorogen (717) as a base for worshipping Mt. Hakusan. During the Sengoku period, at its peak, there were 48 shrines, 36 halls, and 8,000 boin. However, in the year of Tensho 2 (1574), the Ikko Ikki broke out in Echizen, and the entire mountain was burned down. After that, in 1583, Kenkai tried to rebuild it, but it was much smaller than the scale of its heyday. In the Meiji period, Heisen-ji Temple abolished the temple name according to the Shinto-Buddha Separation Order, and the temple-related buildings were demolished and became Hakusan Shrine. When a full-scale excavation began in the first year of Heisei, numerous cobblestones, stone walls, and boin ruins were discovered, and the full picture of the religious city, which was said to be the largest in Japan at that time, was gradually revealed. It has been found that it was once more than ten times the size of the current precincts, and excavations are still underway.
