Come to Jeju Island and climb a mountain that is not very high but has stunning scenery. Taking advantage of the rich autumn colors, I recently took a friend who just arrived on Jeju Island for a trip to Songaksan Mountain again. Rather than climbing, it is more accurate to say we were walking up the mountain. Located in the western part of Jeju Island, Songaksan is a section of the Olle trail. The entrance has a steep slope that leads directly to the mid-mountain, where a vast sea and the nearby Sanbangsan Mountain suddenly appear before your eyes. This is a trail along the coastline with a very broad view, where you can see both Sanbangsan Mountain and Brother Island at the same time. On clear days, you can even see Hallasan Mountain in the distance. The first half of the Songaksan hike offers an unbeatable seascape, while the second half enters into the pine forest ambiance, with purple flowers and Honeysuckle that has not yet finished blooming in summer along the boardwalk. The white horses, haenyeo (female divers), and anglers on the cliffs that you see along the way are definitely the most authentic scenery of Jeju Island. After the climb, you can rest at the bustling Starbucks at the foot of the mountain, and if you continue along the coastline, you can reach a very popular and trendy restaurant.
