While strolling around, I was drawn to the blue-and-white signboard of a ramen shop named "Oki no Shima Ramen," named after the town of Oki Island on the Sea of Japan. Upon checking the menu, I discovered that their specialty is "Flying Fish Broth" and "Rich Shellfish Soup," a rare seafood-based ramen style in Taiwan that I, as a ramen enthusiast, simply couldn't resist! Paired with refreshing green onions, it was a perfect combination! Add the tender soft-boiled egg, and you’ll find yourself finishing every last drop of this bowl. 🔸 Flying Fish Soy Sauce Ramen: Light yet flavorful, perfect for summer! The flying fish broth gave this ramen a balanced taste between lightness and richness. The soy sauce base wasn’t overly salty, and you could taste the depth from the dried flying fish simmered into the broth. The soy sauce soup wasn’t thick, but its aroma was just as captivating as the rich broth. The noodles were thinner and slightly firm, offering a chewy texture. The toppings were generous, including two large slices of char siu, a soft-boiled egg, green onions, and seaweed. The bowl was visually appealing and packed with sincerity. ✅ Summary "Oki no Shima Ramen" breaks away from traditional tonkotsu or miso ramen styles, opting for "the taste of the sea" that’s refreshing and comfortable without being overly heavy. Seeing this picture in front of me, I must say it's totally worth it. 06: Enoshima Island From Enoshima Station, walk across the bridge for a while and you'll find Enoshima Island. Along the way, there are cute cafes to stop and rest along the way. For those who love seafood and raw fish, come here, I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Apart from delicious food, a nice walking street, an old neighborhood, there's also 'Shirasu fish' or what we call a small fish, which is a symbol of this place. Souvenirs, food, desserts, and even ice cream, here, almost everything has small fish as an ingredient. 07: Cafe Yoridokoro A cafe from Inamuragasaki Station that is famous for its photo locations and its menu items like Saba fish rice, with a signature soft and fluffy egg that we have to make ourselves. The shop will provide equipment, which is the fun part, haha. The best place to sit and get the most beautiful photos is the outdoor area. You can ask the shop to reserve a table for you. This shop has tourists queuing up since the shop opens. 08: The Sunrise Shack (Inamura-gasaki Store) Walk along the beach a little further out of the alley and you'll find a street full of cafes. Rows of dozens of shops We stumbled upon this shop and felt that the shop's design was cute and the menu was not expensive. Most importantly, the view from the 2nd floor of the shop was very beautiful. The shop is not very popular among tourists. We mostly saw Japanese people. I recommend it. 09: Pacific DRIVE-IN A cafe and a photo spot that you must come to do! Get off at Shichirigahama Station. The vibes are great. The shop is by the sea. The light is beautiful. Here are some places I visited last year, categorized into recommended, not recommended, and optional visits. 🌸Recommended Visits⛩️: Soga Riverbank (Osaka): If you're planning to visit Osaka for cherry blossom viewing, Soga Riverbank is worth a visit. It stretches about 1-2 kilometers with cherry blossoms, offering picturesque scenes alongside trains. This location is frequented mostly by locals, with few foreign tourists. Transportation is accessible via Kintetsu Bōjō Station, with about a 10-minute walk after exiting the station. Sewari-tei (Kyoto): Sewari-tei is a well-known spot that was stunning even before full bloom last year. It can be paired with Fushimi Jukkoku-bune for a day's itinerary. Ōishi Shrine (Kyoto): Last year's cherry blossom refugee situation is still vivid in my memory, but Ōishi Shrine's night cherry blossoms and Sewari-tei were saviors. It's recommended to arrive before 5 PM for night photography. You might encounter locals with Shiba Inu dogs, which make for great photos. Transportation is convenient from Kyoto Station, with buses Daigo Temple Line 301/303 going directly. ☀️Weather-dependent🌧️: Miidera (Kyoto): We visited Miidera last year during heavy rain, under a gloomy sky. Reservations are required, so it's advisable to check the weather forecast in advance. If it's sunny, it should be picturesque; if rainy, it's not worth visiting as there's nothing else nearby. Reservations can be made at Miidera Reservation. Address: 246 Onjoji-cho, Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture. Reservations start on March 10, 2025, costing 3000 yen per group, up to 6 people. 🚌Other🚶‍♂️: Tsubosaka Temple (Osaka): During cherry blossom season, Tsubosaka Temple is crowded with both locals and foreign tourists. Due to traffic congestion caused by locals driving up the mountain, the bus takes 2 hours, so we walked back and forth, taking about 1 hour from Tsubosakayama Station to Tsubosaka Temple. Transportation is available via Kintetsu Tsubosakayama Station with a direct bus, and no reservation is needed. The best spot for viewing Tsubosaka Temple's Buddha requires queuing. Not Recommended: Shojuin Night Cherry Blossoms (Kyoto): The online photos of Shojuin are heavily edited, making it difficult to capture beautiful night cherry blossom photos. I joined an online tour for over 200 RMB. Departing from Kyoto around 5:30 PM, it takes over an hour to reach Shojuin. Mostly locals visit here, and no one speaks Chinese. I used a duplex room to briefly fulfill my child's dream of living in a two-story house, and it was comfortable because there were two double beds. This room is recommended for 3-4 travelers.
