Tung Lung Island

Located off the tip of clear water bay peninsula, Tung Lung Island is an outlying island without community or notable residential. We book our ferry tickets online and be there on time for boarding. It’s about 40 minutes ride and Nam Tong ferry pier come into view. Kids are excited along the ride as they saw many fishes and jelly fishes. We started our hike anti-clockwise. From pier, you’ll pass by some local restaurant/cafes before heading to the clear trail, keep walking until you reach a junction where you could take the right turn to a view point call “Rock Carving”, or keep walking towards left and continue hiking to “Luk Keng Wan”. Most of the trail is not covered. So beware if you’re hiking in summer or on a hot sunny day. I was sunburnt and had a moment of sunstroke. It took us 1.5 hours walk from pier to Luk Keng Wan, and it was tough hike, even for us. At the junction where we have to decide if we want to continue hiking up to Nam Tong Peak, then Ghost Cave and Spring Rock (a loop back to pier), we decided to turn back. Turned back, took a short break at the South Garden Store (cafe) before heading clockwise to the pebbles bay just 5-10 mins away from Holiday Store near the Tung Lung Fort. Kids love this place where they could find conch/ sea snails and crabs in between the rocks and pebbles. I do think Tung Lung Island is overcrowded. There are many campers, it’s unbelievable. The hike is moderately challenging, kids in our group age 4-6, and they’re all frequent hikers. I am confident we could finish the route if the weather ain’t so hot 🥵 Distance: approx 7km Time: 4-5 hours Toilet: At the pier Difficulties: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (under the sun 90% of the time) Scenic: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #親子好去處懶人包 #行山 #戶外活動 #mykids馬來港孩 #naturalwonders

Panoramic Island Escape at Tung Lung Chau 🌊🌄 Tung Lung Chau offers a refreshing break from Hong Kong’s city buzz—imagine rugged cliffs, sweeping ocean views, and endless fresh air! Perfect for adventurous souls and photoholics looking for a beautiful view just a short ferry ride away. 🧭 Recommended Route: Catch the ferry from Sam Ka Tsuen Pier (weekends, public holidays) straight to Tung Lung Chau. The island is well-marked with hiking trails—head towards Tung Lung Fort for history fans or trek the loop trail for the best panoramas. My tip: walk the south coast and pause often; the sea views are honestly stunning. 🏞️ Must-do Experiences: • Explore Tung Lung Fort ruins and picture old stone walls with the sea backdrop • Wander up the lookout points for wide-angle shots—morning or late afternoon light makes everything glow • Try a quick climb at the legendary rock-climbing crag (even if you’re not climbing, it’s breathtaking to watch) 📸 Top Photo Spots: • The penciled cliffs overlooking the ocean—ideal for that “tiny person, huge scenery” shot • The winding trails—capture leading lines with green hills and blue sea Personal tip: The best views are midway through the southern trail—stop and look back for unexpected Insta-worthy frames! 🔎 Practical Visiting Tips: • Bring plenty of water and snacks—the island is wild, so shops are almost nonexistent • Good walking shoes are a must; trails are rocky in places • Start early—ferry seats fill up fast and the weather can get quite hot later • Pack out all rubbish to keep the island gorgeous ⚠️ Key Precautions: • Watch your step near cliff edges; it gets windy! • No lifeguards—avoid risky swims or unexpected shortcuts #HongKong #TungLungChau #IslandViews #HikingHongKong #OutdoorEscape
