December is a time of universal celebration and my favorite holiday. It's all about eating, drinking, and celebrating joyfully. Having a buffet seems inevitable, at least for me, as I've been doing it since I was a kid. This year, I went to Congress Plus at the Convention Center for their buffet. The food selection is overwhelming. Simply put, they have everything you can find outside and more. As usual, I'll only introduce some festive dishes and highlight items. The chilled seafood variety is extensive. Basic items like sea prawns, sea snails, and mussels are available. The snow crab legs are sweet and fresh, and the lobster is full of roe without being tough like chewing rubber. They even have bread crab, which is satisfying. Freshly shucked oysters are always the most popular item. However, I'm not as young as I used to be, so I can only savor one or two instead of devouring a dozen. Sashimi and sushi are usually sections I might skip, but the quality here is excellent, especially the thick scallops and red shrimp sashimi, which are crowd favorites. Indian curry is another highlight, prepared by an Indian chef to ensure authenticity. All the curries are delicious, particularly the curry fish. The fish's texture is perfect, and the curry sauce is slightly spicier than usual, making it a great match with Indian rice or naan. I must mention the roast meats here, which are of very high quality. Remember to save some room. The black garlic herb lamb chops are already enticing, but the roast beef is a must-try. The tender red color hints at its quality, and it's tender and flavorful without losing its meatiness. The edges have a bit of fat, adding to the taste. It's rare to find such quality at a buffet. For Christmas, they also serve turkey and honey-glazed ham. The latter is my favorite, and the turkey is not dry at all, thanks to slow cooking, which is indeed a great invention. There are also limited-time items like melt-in-your-mouth foie gras mousse pie, refreshing shrimp cocktails, smoked salmon platters, and global cheese platters, offering more choices than usual. Festive desserts are, of course, tempting. The raspberry pistachio crunch cake shaped like a Christmas hat will delight both kids and adults. Macarons are decorated with Christmas hats or snowmen, and cookies feature various Christmas characters and decorations. Cream puffs are also recommended. Additionally, this year's Christmas theme is writing letters to Santa, so one of the desserts is a Santa's mailbox, which is actually a white chocolate and Earl Grey hazelnut roll, very creative. With limited stomach capacity, I tried my best to enjoy some regular desserts like egg waffles and Movenpick ice cream, almost bursting my belly.
