The newly opened CEC Bell Tower Cultural Center: a blend of nostalgia, information, and interactivity

The CLP Building on Argyle Street has been revitalized into a cultural center and officially opened to the public on May 19th. When I was in high school in Ho Man Tin, I'd walk along Argyle Street from Mong Kok Station and inevitably pass this building. Eleven years after its closure in 2012, only the clock tower remains of the three buildings, with the rest of the space now occupied by private residences. The former CLP office building has been transformed into a cultural center, featuring historical presentations, antique exhibits, and exhibitions on energy changes in old Hong Kong, the use of renewable energy, and interactive exhibits that allow visitors to deepen their understanding of the world of electricity. The second floor houses the "My Family Story" exhibition and the "Man-Made Intangible Heritage" exhibition area, curated by the Intangible Cultural Heritage Office, showcasing Chinese clothing and craftsmanship. The interactive area allows visitors to use computers to simulate wearing a cheongsam or polishing jade, making it a fun space for all ages. There's a cafe on the second floor, but it's not yet open. A retired fifth-generation Peak Tram carriage is placed outdoors for photos. The Cultural Center offers guided tours. To learn more about electricity, make an appointment online.
