Chasing Tulips at Hitachi Seaside Park

Hitachi Seaside Park is one of Japan's best-known flower parks, and it boasts much more than just pretty blue flowers — it covers an impressive 350 hectares of land, 200 hectares of which are open to the public. Photographs of the park often highlight its vast fields of nemophila (baby blue eyes) that bloom in spring (~ early April to ~ early May) and kochia plants that turn a brilliant red in fall, but blossoms — from daffodils to poppies, cosmos, tulips, roses, and more — can be seen almost year-round. If you're planning to visit this spring, you'll see narcissus (until ~ mid-April) and tulips and rapeseed blossoms (mid- to late April). Starting in May, you'll find roses, poppies, and, towards the end of the month, linaria.
