Gyeongju Daereungwon: A Perfect Destination for Autumn Travel

Gyeongju Daereungwon, an ideal spot for autumn travel, is a historical site that was re-designated as Historic Site No. 512 in 2011 after consolidating five separate burial mounds from the Silla Dynasty. The name originates from the tomb records of King Michu, the 13th king of Silla. Spanning approximately 410,000 square meters, it serves as the national cemetery of Silla, housing 23 tombs of kings and nobles. Despite being located in the heart of the ancient Silla capital, it has been preserved like a restricted development zone. Excavations of Cheonmachong and Hwangnamdaechong have uncovered numerous artifacts, including golden crowns. With its open interiors and picturesque spots, such as the eastern side of Hwangnamdaechong, it has become one of Gyeongju's most popular tourist attractions. Starting in 2024, it will be open to the public for free, enhancing accessibility.
