Taiping Ancient Town

According to the records of the 'Gulin County Annals,' during the Warring States period and the pre-Qin era, this area belonged to the ancient Xiguo tribe and the Yelang Kingdom, and was called Luohongkou. In the Ming Dynasty, a merchant named Zhu Futong from Taiping Fort in Longnan County, Jiangxi Province, settled here and renamed Luohongkou to Lupingchang to commemorate his ancestor Zhu Xi, who lectured and taught at the White Deer Cave Academy. Later, Zhu's descendants renamed it 'Taipingdu' to remember their hometown 'Taiping Fort,' and this name has been used ever since. Taiping Ancient Town has a rich red culture; in 1935, during the 'Four Crossings of the Chishui River,' the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army fought in Gulin County for 54 days. The main crossing points for the second and fourth crossings of the Chishui River were located in Taiping Ancient Town, leaving behind many valuable red relics and revolutionary artifacts. Taiping Ancient Town is a unique mountain town in southern Sichuan. The ancient town is built along the mountain, and most of the existing buildings are from the Ming and Qing dynasties, using ancient stilted and suspended building structures, showcasing the features of 'platforms, suspensions, interlocks, projections, spindles, and supports.' The scenic area is located at the junction of Yunnan, Guizhou, and Sichuan provinces, and its cultural characteristics reflect a great integration of regional and ethnic features. Taiping Ancient Town is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, a national historical and cultural town, a national patriotism education demonstration base, a key cultural relic protection unit in Sichuan Province, a patriotism education base in Sichuan Province, a national defense education base in Sichuan Province, and one of the 'Top Ten Most Livable Streets and Alleys' in Sichuan Province.
