World Cultural Heritage City～Penang

If you ask me, my favorite city in Malaysia, it must be Penang. Penang, the first city in the north of Malaysia, was listed as one of the World Cultural Cities as early as 2008. Penang still retains very complete colonial-era buildings. When you walk into the George District, you can see many houses built during the colonial period. In fact, those buildings were really carefully preserved. For example, if a step brick is damaged, they need to specially order the same step brick with the same pattern and texture to fill it. These step bricks are already decades old, and it is not easy to order the same ones. If you look carefully at these buildings, you will find a lot of discoveries. For example, why is there a small round hole on the ceiling of a shop? This round hole is very interesting. In order to avoid debt collection from creditors, the previous generation would spy through the round hole to see who was knocking on the door. If it was a creditor, they would pretend that no one was there and would not open the door. George Town is also famous for its graffiti. When you walk on the streets, you will always find graffiti on the buildings. Moreover, those graffiti are painted on different walls according to their reasons, and the meaning is profound.
