Summer destinations around Shenyang for a good time, hike up the mountain to see ancient Liao dynasty pagodas

Gaoshan Mountain is located in Fushun city area, but it is only a little over 40 kilometers away from the central district of Shenyang, making it very suitable for a weekend day trip. Although Gaoshan Mountain is only 150 meters above sea level, its terrain is steep. It was once the site of the highest and largest beacon tower of the Goguryeo's new city, and the Protectorate General to Pacify the East of the Tang Dynasty was also built here. On Gaoshan Mountain, there is a Liao dynasty Buddhist pagoda that was initially built in 1088 AD. The pagoda is 14 meters tall and has an octagonal shape. During the Russo-Japanese War in 1904, the northeastern part beneath the pagoda was destroyed by bombing, and it was not fully repaired until 1996. Halfway up the mountain, there is a Guanyin pavilion with red walls and glazed tiles that look very beautiful against the backdrop of trees. Not far into the park is a large lawn, where citizens set up tents for camping on weekends (some use cassette stoves for barbecues, and there are no signs prohibiting barbecuing). The mountain trails are lined with small yellow flowers on both sides, which are very pretty.
