Ancient architecture and traditional culture | Changqi Ancient Village

Changqi Village is located in Lubao Town, Sanshui District, Foshan, Guangdong. The ancient village was built in the Ming dynasty, and the oldest building still standing was built in the early Qing dynasty. The village is surrounded by mountains and rivers, with two large ponds in front of the village that draw water from the Beijiang River, and Wenbi Mountain behind the village. Most of the houses in the village are courtyard houses with one hall, four rooms, one toilet, and one patio. The village is home to stone carvings, gray carvings, and murals. There are no factories nearby, so the village has maintained its pastoral scenery and natural ecology for many years. The oldest building materials in Changqi Village are over 300 years old, and can be found in the red boulders under the old houses. These red rocks were transported by boat from the Xijiang River. The ancestral halls of the Zhong, Huang, and Lu families, built in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, have been renovated several times, but still retain their original appearance. The Lu family ancestral hall, which is home to the largest number of people in the village, has murals and carvings that are over 100 years old. Changqi Village is also known as the "Longevity Ancient Village" of Sanshui. Of the more than 1,200 villagers, 215 are over 60 years old, and 62 are over 80 years old. Since the 1980s, villagers have gradually moved out of the old village and built new houses outside the old village, with only a few villagers remaining in the old village, preserving the ancient village's appearance.
