Chongqing Guanyue Temple One-Day Tour

Chongqing Guanyue Temple, a Quanzhen sect's Ten Directions Jungle, was originally located at Jiaochangkou. It was built during the reign of Emperor Shenzong of Ming, and the original temple was not small, with 36 halls of various sizes, making it a famous Taoist temple in Sichuan and Chongqing areas. The temple was destroyed by fire at the end of the Ming Dynasty, and was rebuilt during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, with the main deity being the Martial Emperor Guan Yu. During the Republic of China, by the order of Sun Wen, Yue Fei was also enshrined, and thus the temple was renamed from Guandi Temple to Guanyue Temple. Later, due to the urban construction needs of Chongqing, the Guanyue Temple, which was located in the bustling area and had been severely damaged, was moved to its current location in the Fugugong Park and restored to its original appearance. After the relocation, Guanyue Temple disappeared from public view, blending into the landscape with the green mountains and waters, inadvertently embodying the Taoist ideal of being detached from the world. Especially during the summer and autumn seasons, the flowers along the way bloom like brocade, with dazzling colors, making one marvel at the beauty without being lost in it. Walking leisurely, it's hard to tell whether the forest is coming towards me or I am approaching the forest. Through the gaps between the clusters of flowers, the quaint architecture with its green tiled corners is revealed. Ascending the steps and passing the brick-carved lotus screen wall, one formally arrives at the mountain gate of Guanyue Temple. Entering it, there is the Lingguan Hall, with the statue of Wang Lingguan, the Taoist guardian god who protects the mountain. Passing through the Lingguan Hall and climbing the steps, it seems one could almost touch the intricately patterned eaves of the temple. At the end of the stairs is the Yuewang Hall, where the statue of Yue Fei stands as imposing as a mountain, with a gaze that commands respect and awe. It stirs emotions within. I can't help but recall my childhood visits here. Even at a young age, I deeply remembered the 'Loyalty to the Country' engraved on Marshal Yue's back, and I can never forget the powerful and resonant words 'Return My Rivers and Mountains'.
