Wat Phalat and Phalat Waterfall in the middle of Doi Suthep

Wat Phalat or Wat Phalat (Sakadakami) was originally built during the reign of King Kue Na as a memorial to find a place to enshrine the Buddha's relics. According to the legend of the construction of Phra That Doi Suthep, the elephant carrying the Buddha's relics traveled straight to Doi Oi Chang, west of the city. King Kue Na, along with Phraya Lithai from Sukhothai and his ministers, followed the elephant with gongs and drums. When they reached the top of a mountain, the elephant stopped and knelt down. King Kue Na and his followers agreed that the Buddha's relics should be enshrined there. Wat Phalat is one of three forest temples located in the Doi Suthep-Pui National Park. This temple has a history of more than 500 years. It was once abandoned and deserted, but it was renovated and restored to its status as a temple and a place for meditation. As for the reason why it was named Wat Phalat, some elders say that it was originally called Phalet because the land people followed the elephants along the streams and waterfalls. Then many people slipped and fell. Some said that elephants also slipped, so it was named Wat Dalet. Later, it was called Wat Phalat, after the waterfall. Important ancient sites in the temple include the Vihara, which was built during the time of Kruba Srivichai. The way up to Doi Suthep was built by avoiding the base of the original Vihara to the south so that the bases would not overlap. The craftsmen were Burmese, who were all disciples of Kruba Theum of Wat Saen Fang and Kruba Sitthi of Wat Tha Satoi. The front gable of the Vihara was carved with the shape of a peacock, which is a symbol of Burma. The back was carved with the shape of a rabbit, which is the year Kruba Theum was born. Currently, the wind vane and the gable are almost all broken off. The roof is also damaged in many places. When it rains, almost the entire building leaks. The pagoda is in the style of Kruba Srivichai, but it was built by the same group of Burmese craftsmen who built the vihara. The appearance of the pagoda is Burmese art. It is assumed that its shape is similar to Wat Mahawan on Tha Pae Road.
