Italy🇮🇹Catania Cathedral Square This is the main square in Catania, surrounded by two Cathedrals of St. Agata. However, it was already noon when we arrived, and it would not open until 4 o'clock, and the small one at 3:30. Directly opposite the cathedral is Catania's City Hall. There are elephant elements everywhere here, so it is also called the City of Elephants, and the City Hall is the Palace of Elephants. According to early legends, there once lived a group of dwarf elephants under Mount Etna. The locals believed that elephants could bring good luck and protect Catania from the threat of Mount Etna. In 1239, the elephant was officially chosen as the symbol of Catania. Italy 🇮🇹 Dumo Square The main square of Catania, Italy, is the Dumo Square, surrounded by two cathedrals dedicated to Saint Agatha. When we arrived at noon, the cathedrals were closed until 4 o'clock, with a short break at 3:30. Across from the cathedrals is the City Hall, also known as the Elephant Palace due to the prevalence of elephant motifs throughout the city. Legend has it that dwarfs once lived under Mount Etna and were accompanied by elephants, which locals believed brought good luck and protected Catania from the volcano's threats. In 1239, the elephant was officially adopted as Catania's symbol.
