[UK] Finding the artistic conception of Xu Zhimo's "A Farewell to Cambridge"‧Paddling on the River Cam Speaking of Cambridge, one will think of "I left quietly, just as I came quietly..." Xu Zhimo's poem "A Farewell to Cambridge" describes the scenery on the River Cam and the author's reluctance to leave. What will the River Cam be like after so many years? Cambridge is one of the oldest university towns in the UK and is known as "a university within a city". The most famous of these cities is the University of Cambridge, which has a history of over 800 years. It was founded by King Henry VI of England in 1441 and has trained many famous people, including Robert Walpole, the first prime minister in British history, economist John Maynard Keynes, and so on. After entering King's College, you will immediately see the magnificent Gothic architecture and the towering spires. That is the chapel that took 70 years to build and is one of the landmark buildings of Cambridge University. The decoration on the chapel door is not only inlaid with the old royal emblem, but also with crowns and roses, which is very exquisite. The relief vaults and stained glass in the chapel are incredibly beautiful, especially when the sunlight shines through! This place is not only solemn and sacred, but also a bit romantic! After visiting the chapel, don’t forget to take photos on the grass in front of the chapel. Take as many static and dynamic photos as you want! Facing the chapel is the legendary River Cam, and there are many people rowing boats! I can't help but think of a line from Xu Zhimo's "A Farewell to Cambridge": "Pole a long pole and row upstream to where the grass is greener..." This is the Cambridge that Xu Zhimo was reluctant to leave and was willing to be a waterweed. It is so beautiful! I personally feel like it has a bit of a Chinese water village vibe to it XD If you came to Cambridge because of Xu Zhimo, of course you would look for the stone engraved with the poem "A Farewell to Cambridge"! On the riverside opposite the chapel, you will see the stone immediately after crossing the bridge. It is not noticeable at all, which is exactly in line with Xu Zhimo's quiet style!

Not only can you enjoy the scenery on the River Cam, but you can also take a boat to most of the attractions, saving time and effort. There are three main types of boating: professional tour guides, self-paddlers and private boating. Personal suggestion: Of course, you should go with a professional tour guide. Not only can you listen to stories but you can also take photos freely. If you go by yourself, unless you know how to do it or really want to try, you will see many people who don’t know how to do it and get their boat stuck in the middle of the River Cam. It’s so embarrassing😂 Punting ticket purchase procedure: Step 1: Purchase tickets at the Visitor Center Step 2: Go to the boat location and make an appointment (it is recommended to make an appointment immediately after buying the ticket) Note: - Do not buy the Punting boat tickets sold on the street (usually they will add the Walking Tour which may cost 25-30 pounds) - Do not buy the boat tickets at the boat station, which will be more expensive than the tourist center The reason I came to Cambridge was to feel the mood of "A Farewell to Cambridge" on the River Cam.
