Caerleon Amphitheatre is an ancient Roman amphitheater located in the town of Caerleon, Wales, UK. It’s one of the most significant Roman remains in the country. It was constructed around the 1st century AD, during the Roman occupation of Britain. It was a vital part of the Roman fortress known as Isca Augusta. The Caerleon Amphitheatre was primarily used for staging various forms of entertainment & spectacles. It’s estimated to have had a capacity of around 6,000 speculators. Over the centuries, the amphitheater fell into disuse & was gradually buried under layers of soil & debris. Excavations in the 20th century unearthed the remains & now is a protected archaeological site & also a popular tourist attraction.
