Budva, the second largest city in Montenegro, is located on the Adriatic Sea and is renowned for its beautiful beaches and unique Mediterranean architecture. With a history spanning 2500 years, Budva is one of the oldest settlements along the Adriatic coast. The magnificent ancient city walls, the layered red-tiled buildings, and the clear Adriatic coastline each exude a unique charm. The Old Town of Budva is the gem of this city. Situated on a peninsula, the history of the Old Town dates back to the 15th century. Surrounded by medieval city walls, the Old Town features distinctive fortresses, towers, and city gates. By the seaside in the Old Town, there is an iconic statue of a girl in a beautiful pose. There are three very famous churches in the Old Town. Walking along the seaside, you will find the Church of Our Lady, the Church of Saint Ivan, and the Church of the Holy Trinity. The Church of Saint Ivan, located on the north side of the fortress, is a gray and white granite building built in the 17th century. Its towering spire is a major landmark of the Old Town of Budva. This church was also one of the filming locations for '007 Casino Royale.' The Church of the Holy Trinity is located to the west of the Church of Saint Ivan. The copper bell on the main gate chimes melodiously every hour. The Church of Our Lady is situated on the west side of the fortress, in a corner of the Old Town battered by waves. It is the oldest church in Budva, with a history dating back to 840 AD. The church is built in the Byzantine style, with red roofs and white walls contrasting beautifully with the blue sea. Near Budva is the island of Sveti Stefan, a land-connected island linked to the mainland by a narrow isthmus about 100 meters long. The entire island of Sveti Stefan is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The island now serves as a hotel, offering accommodation, dining, and tours.
