Bryggen, Fløyen, and Fjords: The Ultimate Bergen Experience 🇳🇴 🚢

Nestled among mountains and fjords, Bergen is a vibrant hub of history and nature. As Norway’s second-largest city, it is easily accessible from other parts of Europe and perfect for a weekend stopover! Here are my recommendations for a short stay in the city: 1️⃣ Bryggen The historical center of Bergen and one of its most iconic landmarks. The colorful row of wooden houses lining the harbor is famous for its architectural and maritime heritage. Inside, you’ll find a mix of museums, handicraft stores, and cafés. 2️⃣ Mount Fløyen Take the funicular to the top of Mount Fløyen and indulge in breathtaking views of Bergen below. A return ticket in summer costs 190 Norwegian Kroner (around €17), but I recommend buying a one-way ticket for half the price and walking back down. Besides the viewpoint, there are many hiking trails through birch and pine trees. You’ll also find a lake and a fun ‘troll’ forest for children! Visit at sunset for the best views. 3️⃣ Flåm Railway and Fjords If you’re short on time, the ‘Norway in a Nutshell’ day tour is a great way to sample the wonderful Norwegian scenery. Key highlights include the Bergen Railway, the Flåm Railway, and a cruise along the Nærøyfjord. I recommend adding the detour to the Stegastein viewpoint for amazing fjord views. 🏨 Where to Stay: Bergen’s city center is small and compact, making it easy to get around on foot.
