Ancient Washhouse in Bergamo Old Town

Antico Lavatoio (ancient washhouse) located at Via Mario Lupo in Bergamo's città alta (old town) is a historical one. It was built in 1881 and according to the official Bergamo Tourism website, there was a water adduction system (a channel with a continuous flow of water that is provided by simple gravity), an overflow drain system and a gutter of the water sprays produced during the washing to make the whole experience of the laundry an efficient one. More public washhouses were also built in order to combat cholera epidemic due to poor water quality.
