Tsinghua University Art Museum - A Hidden Gem

In 1926, Tsinghua University established the "Archaeological Exhibition Room," 🏛️ which served as the predecessor of the Tsinghua Art Museum. In 1948, the National Tsinghua University founded the Cultural Relics Museum and began preparations for an art department 🎨. By 1950, the Cultural Relics Museum of Tsinghua University was officially established 🎉. However, during the nationwide adjustment of university departments in 1952, Tsinghua transitioned from a comprehensive university to a multi-disciplinary industrial university. Departments and personnel related to the museum were relocated, and some collections were transferred elsewhere 😢. In 1999, the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts merged into Tsinghua University, enriching the university's collection resources 📚 and bringing the art museum project back into focus. In 2008, a preparatory leadership group was formed, and it was decided to adopt the design proposal by Swiss architect Mario Botta for the museum's construction 🏗️. Construction began in 2012 🚧, and in January 2014, the Tsinghua University Art Museum was officially established 👏. On April 27, 2016, the museum officially joined the Chinese Museum Association 🤝, and on December 21, 2020, it was recognized as a national first-class museum 🏆.
