Wat Khaek, Silom

Wat Khaek, also known as "Sri Maha Mariamman Temple," is located at the corner of Silom Road and Pan Road in Bang Rak District, Bangkok. Built between 1879–1880 by Indian immigrants from Tamil Nadu, the temple is distinguished by its South Indian architectural style. Its gopuram (ornate tower) is adorned with numerous colorful statues of deities, making it eye-catching from the very first glance. Upon passing through the magnificent gopuram gate, visitors will find the main shrine housing the deity Sri Maha Mariamman, along with Lord Ganesha, Lord Murugan, and several other gods. The atmosphere inside is serene, filled with the scent of incense and flowers, accompanied by the soothing sound of prayers. Wat Khaek is popular among both spiritual seekers and general tourists, especially for blessings related to love, career, and success. Brahmins perform rituals inside the temple, and worship kits are available for purchase or visitors can bring their own. Prices range from 60–100 THB. Getting there is convenient: • By BTS: Get off at Sala Daeng or Chong Nonsi station, then walk or take a motorcycle taxi for a few minutes. • By MRT: Get off at Silom station and walk a short distance to the temple. The temple is open for free visits, generally from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Visitors should adhere to certain rules, such as refraining from bringing meat, women on their menstrual cycle are not allowed inside the shrine, and photography inside the shrine is prohibited (except when purchasing fortune sticks).
