Thailand's Must-Visit Spot | Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn)

Wat Arun, also known as the Temple of Dawn, is located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, Thailand. It is one of Bangkok's most iconic Buddhist temples, with a history dating back to the Ayutthaya period. The temple was later rebuilt in the late 18th century by King Taksin (also known as King Thonburi), a national hero of Thailand. King Taksin, of Chinese descent, led his army to repel foreign invaders and established the Thonburi Kingdom, and the temple was named in his honor. The main structure of the temple is the 82-meter-tall central prang (main stupa), designed in Khmer style. Its surface is adorned with countless colorful ceramic pieces and seashells, which shimmer brilliantly under the sunlight, symbolizing Mount Meru in Buddhist cosmology. Surrounding the central prang are four smaller stupas, creating a magnificent cluster of towers. At dusk, the setting sun bathes the temple in golden hues, earning it the nickname "Temple of Dawn." (Pro tip: Sunset is the perfect time for stunning photos! If you're taking pictures at night, don't forget to bring a flashlight for better lighting.) There are Thai costume rental services right at the entrance of Wat Arun!
