DUMUK BARETO | A SUNDANESE RESTAURANT WITH A VINTAGE TOUCH,OR "BARETO"

You probably remember if you passed through Setiabudhi Street in Bandung, on the right side, there's a small hill with a small square building on top of it. Yes, that's Oud Bandoeng, Ned-indie Transformatorhuis at Gegerkalong, a historical landmark from the Dutch era that managed the water supply of PDAM to Bandung. It used to regulate clean water supply to the city. You can enter from Setiabudhi Street or its Sukawangi branch. "Dumuk" means settlement or residence. So indeed inside, it's like traditional Sundanese houses from ancient times, still with wells, complete with rice mortars and corn. What's enjoyable here is having a morning 'tubruk' coffee accompanied by 'kolek' or black glutinous rice porridge, or 'bubur sumsum', not forgetting various fried snacks like 'bala-bala', tempeh, tofu, 'combro', 'gurilem'.
