Exploring Amman Citadel

This time, I scheduled some time to explore the Amman Citadel during my trip to Amman. Located on a hill in the city center, this ancient site not only has a rich history but also offers a magnificent view of the entire city. Upon entering the citadel, the most striking structure is the Temple of Hercules. Although only a few giant columns remain from this Roman-era relic, you can still feel the grandeur of the past, especially with the surviving giant stone hand that makes one imagine the statue's spectacular appearance in its heyday. Further inside, you will find the Umayyad Palace, a relic from the Umayyad dynasty. Despite some damage, the domed palace still showcases exquisite stone carvings and arch designs. It is said that this was once a royal residence, full of historical significance. Within the citadel, there is also the Jordan Archaeological Museum, which exhibits artifacts from all over Jordan, including Bronze Age statues and fragments of the Dead Sea Scrolls. It is definitely worth a visit for history enthusiasts. Standing at the top of the citadel, you can overlook the white buildings of Amman's cityscape, with the Roman Theater clearly visible in the distance, as if history and modernity coexist. This trip to the citadel not only made me feel the historical depth of Amman but also made me appreciate the unique charm of this city even more.
