Itinerary
Day 1: City Cultural Exploration Tour
In the morning, head straight to the Leitai Scenic Area, the place where the "Galloping Horse Treading on a Swallow" was unearthed. As soon as you enter the gate, the iconic Galloping Horse Treading on a Swallow sculpture comes into view, as if you can see it speeding by. Then go to the Han Culture Museum to see the bronze chariot and horse honor guard figurines of the Eastern Han Dynasty. Dozens of bronze horses are in various shapes and lifelike, as if they are about to gallop. At noon, go to Lao Sun's San Tao Che nearby for a set meal of Xing Mian, braised meat, and Fu tea. Xing Mian is braised noodles. The noodles are freshly pulled and topped with a thick soup, served with soft and tender braised meat, and a sip of warm Fu tea. So comfortable! In the afternoon, go to the Confucian Temple to feel the strong scholarly atmosphere, and then go to the Western Xia Museum to learn about the mysterious Western Xia culture. In the evening, go to Liangzhou Market to start a food tour, including Youbingzi (fried pancake) with rice cake, Cheng Ji Mianpi (cold noodles), and Wuwei Halal Spicy Hot Pot!
Day 2: A Journey of Nature and History
In the morning, head to Binggou River Scenic Area, which is 40 km away from the city and named after the Binggou River. Here, you can find Qilian glaciers, snow mountains, Tianchi (Heavenly Lake), and grand canyons. The scenery is different in each season. It is not an exaggeration to say that you can experience "three seasons in a day and different weather every ten miles." Azaleas bloom in spring, cool breezes blow in summer, forests are dyed in autumn colors in late autumn, and everything is covered in silver in winter. At noon, try farm dishes at a farmhouse near the scenic area. In the afternoon, go to Tiantishan Grottoes, one of the earliest grottoes in China, known as the "ancestor of Chinese grottoes." Although the Buddha statues and murals have been somewhat damaged after years of baptism, the heavy sense of history is overwhelming. Return to the city for rest in the evening.
Day 3: Surrounding Leisure Day Trip
In the morning, go to Shenzhou Desert Wild Animal Park, where you can see rare animals such as Przewalski's wild horses and desert wild donkeys. There is also an amusement park where you can have fun. Have a simple meal at the scenic area at noon. In the afternoon, go to the Liangzhou Alliance Memorial Hall to learn about the history of Tibet's affiliation to the central government's administrative jurisdiction, and see 100 white pagodas of different sizes and scattered heights, which are especially photogenic under the blue sky and white clouds.
Transportation Guide
If you take the train, Wuwei Station and Wuwei South Station have convenient transportation and many trains. Friends who drive themselves should pay attention to the fact that some sections of the road have many curves and steep slopes, so don't be distracted while driving. For transportation in the city, buses can reach most attractions. If you don't want to wait for the bus, take a taxi, which is also affordable.
