A weekend getaway or a day out the city. Chongming is a quick escape from the big city. For those who like to cycle you can get there with your bikes in a 'Huolala' in around an hour from downtown Shanghai or you can head to Baoshan and get the ferry across to the main town on Chongming. Chongming is mainly farmland and residential. It is ridiculously flat and the main road around Chongming is around 140km There are hundreds of little side streets that head through the farms and trees for a quiet and relatively traffic free ride. We've often taken a picnic or snacks too as there are limited stops for food once out of the main town, but there is a number of nice verandas to sit in and escape the sun. When we've stayed the night in Chongming we've often used the Holiday Inn Express as they accept foreigners without and hassle and have a great breakfast, which even included 'Chongming Cake' when we were there. Around the island there are stop offs and touristy areas. We found an adventure park in the north to play 'Total wipeout' style games and obstacle courses. #shanghai #chongming

Live Horse Show is a spectacular performance that you can not miss if you are around Chongming Island. The whole performance last around 30 minutes. The shows is a combination of beautiful traditional Chinese costumes, a performance with music, sound effects and some acrobatics. Arrive way in advance the starting time to get a favourable position near the stage. Entrance fee is not expensive at all and it is good value for the money. Totally worthy. Dongtan Wetland park is right on the eastern edge of Chongming Island in Shanghai. It is famous for birdwatching but I must confess at this time of year we didn’t see many birds. The park is well managed with lots of walking paths and easy parking. It’s definitely easiest to visit by car as like Chongming island itself it feels remote. There were lots of serious photographers visiting at the same time as us so I’m sure there is more wildlife to see. We rented a tandem bicycle which was cheap and great fun. There is also an area in the park with goats, rabbits and geese. You can even buy some pellet food in the bike hut next to it to feed the animals. A great day out in the winter because it was so quiet but I’m sure it will be more beautiful and feature more wildlife in the warmer weather. #staycation

This bubble hotel is great for kid’s gatherings…There are many activities for kids and parents don’t need to worry as it is private area and No car will drive through this park. We have a great time during the barbecue at evening. Inside the bubble room is so clean. #nationalpark

The place was right in Shanghai ,very convenient to get there with a Didi. I opted for a didi to get there,it was affordable. even more so with a dida. it took about 2 hours to get there. The place was very serene,very good for relaxing. we went peach picking the one day and the staff were very helpful in calling a nearby peach 🍑 farmer. They drove us there,it was less than 5 minutes away. The second day we did quad biking and went all around the land. this was tons of fun and we got too see other parts which we could have not reached while walking. The food was pretty standard for breakfast,could grab some eggs,toast and fruits. The Chinese food was also yummy. I especially enjoyed the sweet pork ribs,even had a take away. On one of the other nights,we also got BBQ,my first time “braaing”. A portion for two,that’s for sure!! Living in a bubble was amazing!! I even got to see it rain which was amazing in the bubble. #summervacation

First day at Chongming Island and we went directly to Wild Wide World where there are lots of alpacas and llamas that adults and kids can interact with. Entrance fee is 98 yuan. It includes strips of carrots to feed to the animals. Not much people so you can really have a good time hanging out with these very gentle animals. I knew about Chongming Island because of the movie 'Cry Me a Sad River', but I never thought that after going there, I found out that Chongming Island is so big! Hotsprings is an excellent choice if you go Chongming Island to escape from the busy city-life style in Shanghai. It is not near so I will take you about two hour’s drive from Shanghai city center. I don’t know the English name of this place but you can get there using this address in Chinese: 竖新镇纬九路前卫村801号. I recommend to stay overnight so you can enjoy the hot spring all night without rushing. The place is well maintained, it is clean, garden are tidy and beautifully decorated with plants and flowers. This place gets very crowded over the weekends so if you have the chance to go during weekdays you will avoid big groups. It has a restaurant, outdoor pool, a hotsprings with different temperatures. Xiyuan park is the perfect plan to spend a lazy morning or afternoon in Chongming Island. It is easy to walk around this place as there are no many stairs. The recommended sightseeing time is between one to two hours. The place is very well maintained, clean and beautiful ornate buildings. This is an incredible experience for those who love history and culture as you will see an evolution of Chinese furniture, specially Luxurious beds. Chongming Island is all about sustainable green farming, and there are a few eco-farms for you to visit. Along the main road, you can find a few eco-stores in the road. This particular store had a great variety of succulent 🌵, some of them even blooming! This was the first time I ever saw a stone cacti’s flower (pic 1), one of my favorite plants. So beautiful! Not only succulents, but also several flowers 🌸 and plants 🪴 you can buy for yourself. There are many nice natural scenic spots around this area, if you are thinking for one day road trip locations, this area is perfect for you.
