Honestly the worst ever Afternoon Tea I have ever eaten & I’ve had a few. As per the photo, the portions were miserly, there were no sandwiches at all. The scones were hard and stale. The beef offering on top of a soggy slice of cucumber, served on a hard as rock piece of bruschetta, was inedible. There was a mini-doughnut that was as dense as cement and equally as tasteless and the price…….100 euros for two people! Do yourselves a favour, take your money elsewhere, have a nice meal somewhere else instead & don’t offer this experience up as a special treat. It isn’t!

We wanted to stay in a castle during our visit to Ireland and Waterford was a great choice. Quiet beautiful setting, staff was top notch and so was the food. The room was comfortable and the bathroom clean and roomy. There are nice trails to walk, weather permitting. The staff went above and beyond to tell us the easiest route to leave on our journey.

My husband I enjoyed our one night stay in the castle. Our room was charming. We enjoyed a walk around the property, before the rain set on. Our dinner was a complete delicious delight. We loved talking to servers. We felt like friends by the time our dinner was over. I did not expect to have a large dinner, because it was four courses, but I could not eat it all(which made my husband happy). Our meat was done to perfection. We then enjoyed some time in the beautiful bar room. The bartender was delightful and very informative. My husband enjoyed a flight of scotch. We learned much and he enjoyed his Scotch. He was even allowed to look at a very rare Scotch, over 1,000 euro a shot!! To end our too short stay, we enjoyed a wonderful breakfast. If we get back to Ireland , I would love to visit Water Castle again. Thank you for the hospitality, Margaret and John Harris Sherrills Ford, NC, USA

We stayed two nights in the Castle and could not have enjoyed it more! The staff was exceptional and the room was the best I have ever been in. The island retreat is magical with its walking trails and natural setting. It was truly relaxing. Only wish we had had more time! We hope to return again!

Room was hot but it didn’t matter because everything else was spectacular. Sally at the front desk gave us great recommendations on things to do and David brought us drinks and made us feel so welcome. The clubhouse was perfect for a more relaxed meal but the formal meal at the castle was amazing. The bread was the best I’d ever eaten! I would recommend this venue 100%

Excellent location, beautifully maintained grounds in a peaceful setting. We were at a wedding and stayed in a lodge. Very comfortable, which catered for all our needs. Excellent service at the hotel, very pleasant and professional staff, couldn’t do enough for us.

I organised a trip for a group of friends and we had the best time! We stayed in the lodges which were in immaculate condition on arrival. The lodges are modern with lots of natural light coming through. We really enjoyed the grounds of the castle and it was very easy to get across to the mainland via the ferry. We ate our dinner and breakfast in the Clubhouse which was delicious and they had lots of options. The reception and admin team were so pleasant and responsive which made organising the trip so much easier! A big thank you to Gillian for all your help and assistance! I would love to stay again.

We would recommend staying here. We felt that the staff couldn’t do more for us they were lovely anything we needed they helped us with. The food was lovely we got bar food and really enjoyed it. Breakfast was lovely on both days lots of choices. We stayed in Ormonde Suite. At something in the future we would love to revisit.

On March 19 2024, three of us decided, on a whim, to go to the Castle for lunch. The dining room was not available so we settled on bar lunch. It was probably one of the worst bar lunches I ever had. It was a very limited menu and it was not good to say the least. Something as basic as salad dressing was not available. ( salad on the side with absolutely NO dressing). Hard to believe. We ordered Chilli prawns that didn’t even pass by a chilli, a very basic, dehydrated burger and a rather grandiose sounding sandwich that materialised as a very, very basic toasted sandwich. All were accompanied by the worst fries I was ever served…. blackening and soggy. We were assured a chef actually prepared it!! We did complain to the very pleasant barman who brought our complaint to the kitchen. I actually felt embarrassed on the day that there were mainly American visitors there who, I’m sure, would have expected a whole lot better. When I got home, I sent my ‘complaint’ by email to the Castle. No reply! I emailed again to say I would be writing a public review… No reply! Communications seem to be an issue. I will give it a score of 1, only because of the very pleasant barman Dylan and a lovely girl named Lauren (I think I’ve got the name correct). Elizabeth Walsh. ( no relation to the proprietor!).
