"I visited the Chequers with friends for a Sunday carvery. Nice setting and a pleasant atmosphere - apart from a child at a nearby table throwing food onto the floor. Generally, the food was good. Meat excellent- very tender pink beef and good roast potatoes. Good selection of vegetables but everything under seasoned - apart from the pork crackling which was excessively salty. Yorkshire puds were rather dry. The gravy, however, was transparent, gloopy and lacked flavour. Veg and potatoes very similar to a Toby but Toby gravy issuperior. I had the 'small' helping, which meant I was obliged to use a small plate, therefore, cutting the food was awkward as it tended to spill over the edge. Normal dinner plates are not permitted! As the amount of meat depends on the small or larger option, I really can't see that having a normal dinner plate would mean a measurably lower profit for the pub. In all, a good carvery but only slightly better than a Toby."

"We had the most wonderful stay at The Hamborough. We had both rooms with the balcony’s and they were beautiful. So relaxing to sit out on in the morning and evening. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and well equipped. We had a delicious breakfast both days and felt welcomed and well looked after by all staff."

"Lovely small hotel ten minutes walk from Ventnor and seafront. Friendly welcoming staff. Beautiful clean and spacious room with sea view and overlooking lovely gardens. Large comfortable bed. Good quality toiletries in bathroom. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits replenished daily. Fridge in room with fresh milk and bottled water. Plentiful breakfast, including fresh fruit salad, yoghurt, full English breakfast available within price."

"We needed somewhere to stay as we were here for The Isle of Wight festival and we found it really hard to find somewhere that was affordable, people simply charge what they want a supply and demand thing going on but we found this little gem and were so pleased, we did book last year and the cost was really good. In fairness we are two people in our fifties that are runners so the walk of 25-30 minutes was not an issue for us it is very hilly . So if you want to stay for the festival unless you drive you will have this walk into Ventnor catch the bus which takes 50 minutes then another 25 minutes from the bus stop to the venue. Buses are cheap just 2.00 per person each way compared to a 66 quid taxi each way ! So now onto our beautiful stay. The hosts kept in touch throughout the lead up to our stay . We usually stay in modern hotels but this is an older quirky accommodation full of history . Our hosts allowed us early entry which was a blessing as we arrived from the mainland early hours. I would say possibly the most helpful welcoming hosts we have ever had, they really could not do enough for us. Our room was clean ,tidy and the bed was comfortable most welcome after walking 10-14 miles each day. Loved the bone china cups with saucers , a range of teas and a cafeteria with freshly ground local coffee and biscuits. I really like this old school stuff ! The hosts allowed us to eat our picnic in their pretty garden grounds which has a table and chairs. So chilled out and quiet. The hosts are very honest and the internet coverage is very poor but can be reached in the lounge, this was not a problem for us as used just mornings before we went out. Plenty of storage in the rooms and complimentary toiletries which I was glad of having forgotten some items. Absolutely loved having a bath there’s a shower over the bath but due to the extensive walking a magnesium salt bath was most welcome. Bathroom has plenty of space and cleaning items should you need them , you want for nothing at all here. Room has tv , lovely view to the garden and old style fireplace. The accommodation is full of old artefacts are so interesting . The food…. Wow ….everything is locally sourced…even the ketchup . You pre order and everything was hot, perfectly presented I have never tasted such good bacon . The service was so good , as they only rent out three rooms they always find time to talk to you. One of the most memorable stays thank you Ruth and Robert x definitely intend to return . X"

"What a lovely place to stay. First a warm welcome from Stuart. The rooms are large and airy and spotlessly clean. There is a downstairs sitting room which we really appreciated, with interesting books about the history of Ventnor out on the table. There is a grassy garden terrace too for sitting outside. The walk into the centre of town is only about 15 mins, and it feels like a botany trail because of all the luscious flowering plants tumbling over (and through!) people's garden walls. We did think that because it's called a B+B the room rate would include breakfast, but looking more carefully at the booking confirmation it does say clearly that it's room only. A very comfortable and relaxing place to stay. I would love to stay there again."
