Hôtel l'Aigle du Montana by les Etincelles

This is not what I would call a hotel. It’s an old ski chalet with very small, old fashioned rooms and a small area for breakfast.. formerly operated by down market ski company, Ski World! There is nothing else other than rooms. It’s affiliated to another hotel and you go there for dinner. We moved to that hotel because this one is not 4*. It’s a bed and breakfast collection of rooms. The room we had was a classic. It was so small that there was no where to put your wheeled luggage bag other than at the end of the bed to be stepped over to get in and out of the room and bathroom. The shower room was so small even me as a UK size 8 barely fitted in. No proper shower head either, just a small stick shaped thing usually found on bath taps for rinsing your hair!. One small chair in the room that I suppose we would have to share. A 2/3 sized double bed! We booked a 4* holiday with ski Crystal and booked this hotel because it was owned by the same company that have the 4* Levanna in the resort too. We therefore expected the same quality as we had experienced there the year before. The difference couldn’t be more stark. A small hotel reception desk, rooms and breakfast. Nothing else! We were very unhappy and to be honest I think the lady on reception was used to people not being happy at this place being sold as 4*. She was not surprised when we asked to move to another hotel. We moved to Village Montana Hotel and it is 4* with full facilities too! Ski Crystal arranged the move for us and their rep for that area for Tignes was very helpful and indeed said others had asked to be moved the week before us too! This hotel needs to be accurately described and cannot use a 4* rating just because the places you are sent to for dinner have that rating. This is a 2* bed and breakfast, falsely representing itself as 4*.

We stayed for a week at Hotel l'Aigle du Montana in Tignes Le Lac, it was my 4th stay in Tignes - Val d'Isere and one of the best. The hotel is well located with access to the slopes a short 100m level walk from the boot room. The rooms are well equipped, typical size compared to similar hotels I have stayed in whilst skiing, very comfortable and kept really clean and tidy. Breakfast was good and we enjoyed the choice of restaurants across the Village Montana area of the resort which were available through our half board booking. We made use of the sauna and pool which was was nice way to unwind after a day of skiing. The thing that really made the stay exceptional for us was the team working at the hotel. As soon as we checked in everyone at reception made a huge effort to remember our names, ask about our day whenever we saw them and generally made us feel right at home and taken care of. We celebrated my birthday while we were staying at the hotel and the team went above and beyond to make it special. I cannot compliment them enough, they turned what is a very nice and very typical alpine hotel into a really exceptional place to spend a holiday - thank you!

Excellent room, bed made every day, super location and easy to find. Half board was very good value with a choice of restaurants. The only downside is that the parking is extremely tight, especially the ramp down and initial turn

Very nice hotel, small rooms but do the job and are very warm. Staff were very friendly and breakfast had a good variety. Up a hill, so caused some issues on foot after it snowed. Otherwise, very good!

I couldn't wait to leave this hotel! The rooms were terribly small, there was nothing for breakfast but eggs, potatoes and bread, the staff at the restaurant for dinner were extremely unfriendly and no one spoke English. The price we paid was horribly high and not worth it.

Stayed the pre Christmas week 2023. Had stayed here when it was a large chalet and was pleased to see the refurbishments which had taken place. Rooms are fairly small but, unusual for France, had plenty of storage space. Beds are large and very comfortable, with excellent pillows. Staff at reception are helpful and speak good English. They are very pleasant and knowledgeable. Cleaning of the rooms is especially good. Breakfasts were excellent, with four hot options, as well as the choice to boil your own eggs, and an extensive continental breakfast. Although the hotel no longer seems to have its own restaurant for evening meals, the ability to use the other Village Montana restaurants, if on half board, is a veritable plus. The Chanterelles restaurant is superb and there's no need to book. The traditional Savoyard La Chaumieres is also excellent but needs to be booked. The only downside to the hotel is its distance from the main part of Tignes Le Lac, although all but beginners can ski to the centre via a track in a couple of minutes. This involves accessing the track via a short set of stairs just beyond the main Village Montana Hotel. The other possible downside is the weight you will need to lose after eating at the hotel's restaurants.
