Schloss Schadau - Swiss Historic Hotel

Schloss Schadau has one of the most gorgeous interiors of any hotel I've ever stayed. The grand rooms, ornately carved and enormous wood doors, the fixtures and fittings and the stunning curved main staircase are jaw-droopingly beautiful. Competing with the exquisite interior is the equally, and some would argue even more beautiful, setting with its park and gardens and position on the Thunersee peninsula. My traveling companions, family and friends, and myself took 3 rooms and they were very large with amazing views. My view was of the park and the other 2 were a corner suite and the tower / turret suite with both lake and garden views. The backdrop of the Jungfrau mountains was the icing on the cake. The interiors of the bedrooms were very functional and the space was vast, but I describe the furnishing style as minimalist, perhaps even spartan. But this may be in keeping with the historical accuracy of how the rooms were originally furnished. I just prefer a bit more softness and less wide open space. Staff were very pleasant and professional and the two postcards I wrote to my children which Anita so kindly offered to post for me, arrived at my home 2 1/2 weeks later which is fairly quick for international mail. I'll review the breakfast and dinner service separately and keep this about the hotel and sleeping accommodation. For our first two nights in Switzerland, it was a wonderful hotel and location from which to recover from a very delayed U.S. flight and 24+ hours of travel, and to recharge for the remainder of our vacation. If you have the opportunity to stay here, I highly recommend this unique, luxury Castle hotel.

We had a wonderful weekend in Thun and to a large part that was due to our stay in the wonderful Schloss Schadau. The rooms are spacious and cosy, the breakfast was great and the location is amazing. Right at the lake and just a short walk from the center of Thun. The staff was very friendly and made us feel most welcome.

The fairy-tale castle is perfect for a romantic stay. All rooms are beautifully renovated. The atmosphere is informal despite the noble ambience. On a weekend when the weather is nice, the castle park is a popular place. During the day it can be difficult to get a free table in the restaurant and on the terrace. Towards evening it becomes quieter, when mainly the hotel guests stay in the castle. Dinner on the terrace (or from the enclosed conservatory in cooler weather) offers a breathtaking view of the lake and mountains, including romance. We were a bit disappointed with the dinner. Given the noble surroundings, we expected a gourmet meal, but this was not the case. Breakfast was also a bit below expectations. To be fair, the Corona restrictions had only recently fallen, so perhaps the food is now at a higher level. We were very satisfied with our room, however. We had a deluxe room lake view with two balconies on the 2nd floor. The room was very spacious, bright and with a dream view. The balcony was very small, but at least had room for a table and 2 chairs. From the same category there is a room on the 1st floor with a very large balcony and a more rustic decor. Next to this room on the 1st floor are seminar rooms with balcony. This may affect the privacy a bit. During our stay at Easter there were no seminars and the hotel was very quiet (the upper floors are only accessible to hotel guests). The spa at the neighboring Hotel Seepark is included in the overnight rate, but we did not use it. Very nice service staff, we felt comfortable and would come again.

the castle is located very far from the city and there is nothing near it. the exterior and public areas are impressive and perfect for instagram photos. we had a room with very nice views. all rooms don't have any refrigerators. we did not meet the friendly staff. we didn't eat their expensive dinner. most disturbing - from early afternoon until dark all the park in front of the castle is full of many people in swimsuits and blankets making music, noise and even bbq. (all the area is public and it is not the fault of the hotel) - but instead to feel like in an elegant chateau in france you feel like being straight at the beach.

It’s a fantastic and unique place. In the middle of a public park and right at the tip of lake Thun you get a stunning view over the lake and mountains. The ‘schloss’ was built to resemble an English manor house and the details and period features have been beautifully restored. Everything is well-designed with locally manufactured furniture and fittings (bathrooms might be on a small side, but you have everything you need and they had to make do with the architecture, so fair play!). Breakfast in the conservatory at the front overlooking the lake is great, many locals came in for breakfast as well on their Sunday morning walk. Parking spaces are near and you can easily walk to the city centre. We can’t wait to come back again!

Great value for money. A proper luxury stay. Best dinner I've had in Switzerland. Absolutely will stay again next time I pass through. Staff accommodated a very early check out with a prepared takeaway breakfast. Only wished we could have stayed longer.

A great hotel in a very nice park, on the lake of Thun. Very nice service, a great terrasse for the afternoon, very enjoyable restaurant for diner. I will definitely come back. They have 5 parking spaces but you need to book them in advance.

AMAZING place! We loved every minute of our stay at the Schadau Castle, from the moment we arrived at this beautiful historical building by the lakeshore of lake Thun. The castle is magical, the bedroom spacious and quiet with a huge en-suite, the public areas so rich in history and decor. The service was EXCELLENT and all the staff very friendly and kind. We had booked a package which included a visit of the castle (absolutely a must) and a 5 course dinner with wine pairing, it was delicious and the wine waiter was incredibly nice. To end our stay, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast in a beautiful room with more views of the lake/mountains. I cannot recommend this place enough and we will definitely be back! thanks to everyone at the Schloss Schadau! NOTE: great care and attention was taken by the staff with regards to COVID measures (eg. checking of COVID pass, wearing of masks, disinfecting gel etc)

From the moment we entered Castle Schadau we felt like VIP guests. After checking in we were invited to a tour of the castle which was very interesting. Due to an event on the same day we were upgraded to a tower suite with a stunning view onto lake of Thun. The 5-course dinner with matching wines as well as the service were first class. All the staff we met we found extremely friendly and helpful. For a special treat Castle Schadau is the right place :-)
