Gramercy Mansion

My wife and I have had the great pleasure of staying at The Gramercy in every season of the year. This time my stay was “solo” due to my wife’s being hospitalized at Johns Hopkins. The “G” offers a discount to patients and attending family members. I thought that I knew every corner and nook of the mansion but this time I discovered the intimate charms of the “Magnolia Room,” one of at least two former servant rooms when the grand house was built as a wedding present for the niece of Mary Cassatt, the American impressionist and sister of a railroad magnate. When my wife is receiving outpatient treatments our favorite room is the “Hunt Room.” But I was on a self-imposed budget and the “Magnolia Room” offers all the elegance and most of the amenities on a smaller scale. Nice fridge, microwave, shower with great water pressure and even a fireplace with a flat-screened TV over it! We are not “minimalists” and the layers of drapes, nice rugs under foot and the fluffiest of towels are most appreciated. And the breakfasts!!! But, best of all are the people. I saw the owner “Anna” and chatted with her daughter Christine. I made what I hope is a new friend for life, sweet “Jenna.” Leah in the evenings always had a welcoming smile! Roman who is a master carpenter and grounds crew chief swept the snow off my car and plowed the parking lot and long driveway up to the Mansion. The public rooms are wonderful spaces in which one can just sit and contemplate and thank God that such beauty exists. The gardens are magnificent in every season! While I was there it snowed! Why stay any other place?

This is more than just a B&B, although it is an excellent one; it is a superb find in beautiful Greenspring Valley in Baltimore County. The owner and staff are wonderfully hospitable; the mansion is replete with amazing art works and antiques; and the grounds around the mansion are beautifully designed and maintained gardens. Also, the rooms are superbly and generously appointed, and the breakfast an attraction in itself. Not to be missed! Of course, since it is a destination wedding site, best to go in season during the week.

If you want a venue that will make your wedding unique and magical, look no further. I love this place so much. My now wife and I got married here May 11, 2024. The entire weekend was such an incredible experience. Our guests all fell in love with the place, both its homey charm and quirky decor, just like we did. We were struck by the beauty and warmth as soon as we walked in (who doesn't love a grand staircase and gorgeous lobby fireplace?), and were delighted to discover that you could wander the back halls endlessly looking at the vast array of artwork, toys, glassware and curiosities the owners have collected through the years! (the character Stefon from SNL would say, "this place has everything: antiques, vintage toys, murano glass statues of clowns, life-size taxidermy mountain goats"). It was the perfect mix of beauty and quirk for us. The rooms are themed and make you feel like you're being transported into some fantasy world, but generally also have excellent modern features to make you feel fully relaxed, like the large jetted tub and lovely, large walk-in-shower! We rented out the entire mansion for the weekend so the bridal party could stay with us. At every step along the way, the Gramercy staff communicated what they needed with clear parameters and lots of leeway time. They do enough weddings that they have the routine down pat, especially if you're working with a wedding coordinator and caterer that they are very familiar with. Despite this, they are always genuinely excited to be part of someone's special day--they exude a warmth and kindness that really sets them apart and adds to the special quality of the day. When we first checked in the day before the wedding, Shannon already had a tray of brownies ready for us. And that's before we even mention the absolutely delicious homemade breakfast we got to enjoy in the lovely space--pancakes, oatmeal, fruit, eggs benedict, all homemade and excellent, served by the same kind people. The entire wedding party raved about the quality of the oatmeal. I know of no other establishment that has been able to elevate such a humble breakfast. The grounds and scenery are what sets this place apart for us. They landscape and tend the grounds so perfectly, with such an eye for color. The springtime environment at the Gramercy was just incredible. Our friends and wedding party loved perusing the grounds, as my wife and I have done on many occasions. There are so many lovely spots to stop and so many interesting plants and statues to see! That said, when our physical parameters and weather changed, the staff at the Gramercy could not have been more accommodating. I have never seen an establishment that was able to make an indoor space so charming and beautiful for a wedding environment. One of the reasons we chose this location is that we knew the atrium, with its curved wall of floor-to-ceiling windows and lush greenery, would be gorgeous even if the beautiful outdoor spaces were rained out.

This was our third stay here— this time for a family wedding. Everything exceeded our expectations. The rooms are spacious and luxurious. Working with the staff was pleasant and so easy. They were always there to help. It was a gorgeous day for the outdoor wedding, with the dinner inside afterwards. The grounds looked immaculate and provided plenty of space for people to mingle about. We enjoyed meeting for a great breakfast each morning to relax and enjoy the family.

This place is such a hidden gem. I grew up around here, but I've never stayed. The grounds are beautiful, and the mansion is even more exquisite. Stayed in the Bar Harbor room, which was perfect for us. We loved walking through all of the gardens. Breakfast was amazing with cooked to order omelets and pancakes. Everyone was so friendly! Can't wait to come back.

We held our wedding reception at Gramercy...It truly is one of the greatest gems in Baltimore, and best place for an event. Staff, grounds, service is exceptional . We are incredibly grateful for a perfect event!

This is one of the nicest properties that we have stayed in in quite a while The staff was beyond friendly The food was beyond excellent can't wait to return More in the spring so we can see the gardens at full bloom

We love Gramercy! We are regular weekenders celebrating anniversaries there each year for many years now. The staff and the gardens, the breakfast, historic mansion and the Blue Garden Suite never fail to provide the most wonderful weekend. Perfect place for a wedding or any other special occasion.

The best. Our 3rd stay and a great experience. This is one of my favorite places to stay in the world. ( we do travel a lot) Great staff, location and excellent property. Great breakfast , serene with a lovely room with a fireplace. As good as it gets.
