State House Inn

This hotel seemed a good value but we had a major issue. After several tries, even the staff could not get the key card to work. Another room was provided but unfortunately, we could not access medication, feminine hygiene products, toiletries, food/water. I deducted points from the service score as we were left without updates as to when maintenance would assist us. Trip customer service reported that nobody would answer the phone when they tried to assist us. It was not until I inquired that were were informed were would be locked out until the next morning. As a result, I had to go out and purchase necessities. Despite the cost and inconvenience all Trip.com offered was $5 in coins, which is unacceptable. The hotel said they would refund to our card but since we booked Trip the couldn't do anything. That said, the staff was courteous and professional, one staff member even loaned us a phone charge cable which was appreciated. The room itself was clean, the bed was very comfortable, and this was the best part of the stay. Breakfast: I don't recommend the breakfast. The offerings were very similar to other hotels but preparation seems to be the weak link. For example, the sausage appeared to have just thawed and was colder than room temp. The eggs were watery with brown chunks in them, perhaps from scorching the bottom. TLDR: Our needs were minimal and without our difficulties with the key cards and breakfast this would have been a good value. It's concerning that a hotel doesn't have a way to access a room in an emergency scenario.

Fridge is broken and tv is off the wall laying on dresser. Lobby smelled like gas from unlit fireplace.

I did not appreciate coming back to my room for the second night and discovering no maid service. When I asked about it I was told I had to request maid service. No fridges in room and no hair dryers. Bare bones, but not bare bones price.

I have stayed here in the past pre-COVID, and always had a great experience. My only complaint this time was that the breakfast was not at its best, it was late getting set up and my husband had to wait which made him late for his meeting. When I went down later there was very little food and no one around to ask for anything. Very disappointing from what it used to be.

Arrived at 6:45 pm to check in. The lobby was full of guests waiting to check in. One guest had been waiting over 2 hours. I was told my room was being cleaned. I asked for a refund because I had surgery early the next morning and needed to prep. That desk employee left and said she was going to go and check with the cleaning lady. Meanwhile, another desk lady said she found a room for me after I told her what had happened and I wanted a refund and a new hotel.

Room was clean and comfortable and very convenient location in downtown Springfield. The only reason for the 3 star rating is because breakfast was included but we weren’t able to secure breakfast either of the two mornings we were there. There was a large group staying at the hotel. The first morning we were there, we went down at 9:30am to get breakfast (it was served until 10am), but the group staying in the hotel already ate all the food and we were told by staff that they were closing down breakfast service early. We paid for our room too! I was very disappointed that the hotel hadn’t prepared properly and also didn’t offer any kind of retribution for not providing us breakfast when it was included with our room. The second morning we were there, it seemed no food was offered at all as even the large group staying there was ordering breakfast delivery.

We waited a lot. I repeatedly called the day before (after booking unrefundable)to try to get rooms together but no one answered. We waited ten minutes for someone to come to the desk to check us in (there were two families waiting ahead of us so it took 20 minutes after that). At breakfast we waited for hot food because sternos were on and man came to light them at 7:40 but never came back with food by the time we had to leave at 8:15. Ran out of coffee, peanut butter, butter and cream cheese for bagels and toast. Hot water was cold for oatmeal packets, do we ended up buying breakfast at Starbucks. Nice room but only one towel left for two of us - no one at front desk to get another one. Guess the staffing shortage is affecting them, but either way feel we paid too much for too little.

No greeting from the staff, and had to wait to 5:00pm to check in. I understand they might be short staffed, but a simple smile and “sorry for the wait,” would have solved this problem. On a positive note, the room was very clean. I heard from several guests that the hotel had no breakfast for them the previous morning. Apparently the food services never showed up? I hope these quests were given a discount.

The hotel was nice and clean, our room was very clean and the price was good. The receptionist was very polite and helpful. The staff was excellent. I will definitely recommend this hotel.
