The Hotel was well presented and furnished to a good standard. Our room was clean and roomy. The reason for awarding 3 stars was down to a few things that could have been better. The shower was cold, which after a days walking is not ideal. As this was in the morning we had no time to sort this out. The breakfast was ok. The other is the ‘set menu’ which is £35 per head whether you have the 3 courses or not, which seems inflexible as we didn’t have a starter. The Hotel location is fabulous and hopefully these comments will be taken on board.

Stayed here as a couple for three nights and had a fantastic stay The staff were great - Jaison, Ryan, Dave and Rosina all really friendly and nothing was too much trouble Food was excellent, plentiful and very good value for money We stayed in room 23 which overlooked the stream, lovely to listen to the water and birds. Room was comfortable and quiet The hotel has been recently refurbished and everything thing feels clean, fresh and tastefully done Loads of parking Hotel ideally located for hiking in the Borrowdale Valley. We did two hikes from the door - Stonethwaite Fells (5 Wainwright’s) and Borrowdale Fells (3 Wainwright’s) Hotel is mostly a walkers / hikers hotel as it’s one of the coast to coast stops We had packed lunches on two days and these were the best we’ve ever had Overall we love our stay. Would highly recommended and would definitely stay again

We recently stayed the night on our C2C walk and had a very enjoyable stay. The hotel is very comfortable with great hikers facilities, our room was luxurious, all the staff were very friendly and the food was fabulous. My only concern was we were woken in the night by the firebrigade as an automatic alarm had been triggered and they couldn't raise anyone in the main building - from a fire safety perspective with so many guests staying, I would expect a staff member to be more readily available in this situation!

We enjoyed a short break here at the beginning of May. The hotel is in an excellent location ..a few miles away from the main town of Keswick but with a bus stop outside. We used the bus for travelling around the local area…perfect for stopping off various locations like Buttermere and Whinlater forest and getting to Ambleside and Windermere if needed. The hotel is staffed by a very friendly and welcoming team. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The evening meals are excellent using local fresh ingredients daily. Breakfasts are also very good! All round we would love to make this a regular visiting place …if only it was closer than the 6 hour drive away…we hope to return though !

Awesome staff awesome room awesome food........ highly recommend and if you go do not hesitate to book your evening meal. Ann and her team are extremely welcoming and nothing is to much trouble. Very tranquil especially sitting in front of the coal fire with a wee dram.

Had a very small single room in one of the back buildings. Perfectly decorated and spotlessly clean. Good shower and bathroom. No room to swing the proverbial puss, but a cosy, comfy room nonetheless. Bar and restaurant extremely busy and evidently a little short-staffed, but we were served with smiles and in good time. Food was really good, perfectly cooked and hot, nicely presented, 4 courses included bread and home made butter, goats cheese and beetroot, salmon and potatoes and veg, delicious cheesecake (also home-made I think). Breakfast food lovely also, fresh and hot, just a bit of a trek from the seating in the dining area to the breakfast buffet items and coffee in the other room and being busy, not much elbow room. Overworked staff remained cheerful and pleasant and efficient throughout, so well done to them!

In the heart of the lakes this absolute gem takes your breath away...!! Jason, Ryan & Rosina are wonderful hosts and nothing, I mean nothing, is too much trouble for them. Dave the chef's food is to die for and surpasses the reasonable price for three course they charge. Breakfast fit for a king sets you up for the day and if you get back early, free tea and coffee with scones all afternoon - I can fault this place...!!

Our second visit this year, both were great experiences, stayed 5 nights this time. Room so comfortable and clean. Food high quality (Chef's David and Paul offer local, tasty food prepared to a high standard). Great team spirit of Jason, Ryan and Rosina (or was it Rosetta or Roisin, or Rysin ) made us feel very welcome and great banter too. Even when a team member down, service didn't slip. Drying room excellent facility (needed both stays - warm and dried kit for ready for morning). Excellent value for money.

After one average and two poor hotel stays on our coast to coast walk this was a gem. Recently refurbed with tasteful touches. The room, whilst smallish was well equipped and a great ensuite. Food was fantastic. After 15 miles of walking just what we needed.
